What the five senses means

You learn how your body helps you notice things around you. This helps you answer simple questions about seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching.

What you will practise

Match each sense to the correct body part.
Choose the eyes, ears, nose, tongue or skin.
Answer simple pictures and word questions about senses.
Tell what each body part is used for.

Before you start

You should already know common body parts like eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin. It also helps if you can listen to short questions and point to pictures.

Working: We use our eyes to see.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mixing up eyes and ears. Remember eyes are for seeing, not hearing.
Choosing the nose for tasting. Use the tongue when food tastes are asked about.
Forgetting that skin helps you feel. Touch is done with the skin, not the hands alone.
Answering with an action instead of a body part. Give the part first, then think about the sense.
