What time and the calendar means

You learn to read clocks and use simple words for days, weeks and months. This helps you answer everyday questions about school time, home routines and dates.

What you will practise

Before you start

You should know the names of the numbers on a clock face and be able to count forwards in ones. It also helps if you can say the days of the week in order.

Working: One hour = 60 minutes.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mixing up the short hand and long hand; the short hand shows the hour.
Forgetting that one hour has 60 minutes, not 100 minutes.
Counting days in a week wrongly; a full week has 7 days.
Reading a time as near the hour when the minute hand is not on 12.
