You learn to spot common shapes and notice simple repeating patterns. This helps you answer questions about pictures, objects and sequences in class and in tests.

Identify circles, squares and triangles from pictures.

Match shapes with real-life objects you know.

Before you start

You should already be able to count small numbers and follow simple oral instructions. It also helps if you can name common colours and everyday objects.

Working: A circle is perfectly round, just like the sun.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mixing up a circle and a ball shape. Look for a flat round outline.
Counting corners instead of sides on a shape. Check both features carefully.
Guessing the next pattern item too quickly. Say the pattern out loud first.
Missing a shape because it is turned around. Focus on the shape, not its position.
